MOBILE, Ala. — The Pittsburgh Steelers are spending a week in Mobile, Alabama, scouting top prospects for the 2025 NFL Draft. Senior Bowl Director Jim Nagy emphasized the depth of talent at defensive line and running back—key positions for the Steelers.
During Monday’s opening press conference, Nagy pointed out the strength of this year’s running back class, which he believes will benefit the draft.
“It’s a deep class, which is great since the free agent market isn’t strong,” Nagy said, highlighting standout players like Ollie Gordon and Damian Martinez among the 12 running backs participating. He noted that filling the roster with quality players has been easier this year, even before Georgia star Trevor Etienne’s addition.
Nagy attributed the renewed value of running backs to teams adopting a complementary backfield approach, citing the Detroit Lions as a model. He expects the depth at the position to last through the later rounds of the draft.
Given the weak free agent class and Najee Harris’s potential departure, the Steelers will likely seek a new running back. However, they may prioritize drafting a defensive lineman early on, as Cameron Heyward approaches the end of his career despite his strong performance. They may seek a successor to pair with Keeanu Benton.
Nagy praised the defensive line group, particularly the EDGE talent and interior linemen, predicting exciting matchups during the week.
The Steelers will closely assess these prospects, building connections that could extend beyond the draft into future free agency.
