Gannon Buhr Reflects on Pressure and Challenges Ahead of Des Moines Title Defense: “I Think I Lost My Aiming”
Gannon Buhr, the top-ranked disc golfer on the Disc Golf Pro Tour, is preparing to defend his title at the fourth annual Des Moines Challenge, held at Pickard Park in Indianola, Iowa. Buhr, who has already claimed three tour victories in 2024, is seeking his fourth win of the season—a feat that would match his total victories from 2023.
Despite his success, the 19-year-old Iowan expressed concern about his performance, stating, “I am in tears for fears, I think I lost my… aiming,” alluding to the pressure and mental challenges he faces as he returns home to defend his title. Last year, Buhr secured his first win at the Des Moines Challenge, finishing with an impressive -19, three strokes ahead of his competitors. However, he anticipates a tougher course this year, with new holes adding to the difficulty.
Reflecting on his 2023 victory, Buhr shared, “To win at home was crazy. I had a fellow Iowan, my friend, Gavin Babcock, on the card as well, and so for us both to play awesome here was so cool last year. We’re hoping to repeat that again.”
As the Des Moines Challenge approaches, all eyes will be on Buhr to see if he can maintain his top form and overcome the mounting pressure to retain his title on home turf.
