The Australian men’s cricket team has announced that fast bowler Spencer Johnson will miss the upcoming 2024 T20 series against England and Scotland due to a side strain sustained while playing in The Hundred tournament in England. All-rounder Sean Abbott has been named as his replacement.
Johnson, who has played just five T20 matches for Australia, returned home for further assessment and rehabilitation following his injury. This setback rules him out of Australia’s tour, which begins on September 4 and includes three T20 matches each against Scotland in Edinburgh and England, followed by five ODIs against the latter.
Abbott, 32, brings more experience to the squad, having played 15 T20 matches for Australia with 15 wickets at an average of 26.60 and an economy rate of 9.10.
Mitchell Marsh will captain both the T20 and ODI squads during this tour, as regular ODI captain Pat Cummins has been rested ahead of Australia’s busy schedule later in the year, which includes tours to Pakistan and India in November.
