Just in… Joe Davis: “I am Leaving….. This is my ninth year. It’s flown by. We love Los Angeles”
Los Angeles, CA – In a heartfelt revelation, Los Angeles Dodgers play-by-play announcer Joe Davis shared his thoughts on leaving Los Angeles during a recent interview on the Awful Announcing Podcast. The 36-year-old broadcaster, who took over from the legendary Vin Scully, opened up about his journey with the Dodgers and his deep connection to the city.
“This is my ninth year. It’s flown by. We love Los Angeles. My wife loves it here,” Davis stated. He explained that while he and his wife have had opportunities to return to the Midwest, where both are originally from, they ultimately decided to stay. “Every time that comes up, she’s made it clear – ‘no, we’re not leaving here, the weather’s too nice out.’ It’s too great. This is kind of home now. We have three kids who are in the school year.”
Davis has embraced his role as the voice of the Dodgers, a position previously held by Vin Scully for nearly seven decades. He admitted that despite offers from other regions, Los Angeles feels like home to him and his family. He hopes to remain the voice of the Dodgers for the rest of his career, as long as the team continues to have him.
In addition to his role with the Dodgers, Davis has taken on national duties as the baseball play-by-play commentator for Fox Sports during the World Series, and also covers NFL, college football, and basketball. Due to his busy schedule, Davis is calling fewer games for the Dodgers this year—just 90—but remains committed to the team.
“The Dodgers, Fox, and my bosses have been great to me,” Davis said. “They’ve worked nicely and allowed me to coordinate the schedule… I love doing it. It’s something I’m never going to give up.”
Dodgers fans can rest assured that, despite his numerous commitments, Davis plans to stick around for the long haul, continuing the legacy that Scully left behind.
