The New England Patriots are in urgent need of help at wide receiver as they approach the offseason, making Cincinnati Bengals star Tee Higgins a prime target in NFL free agency.
Higgins, who was franchise-tagged by the Bengals last offseason, is widely expected not to re-sign with the team.
However, he recently made a notable decision by switching his agent to Rocky Arceneaux, as reported by Kelsey Conway of The Cincinnati Enquirer. Interestingly, Arceneaux also represents Bengals standout Ja’Marr Chase, who is due for a contract extension. While this change in representation could be significant, it may ultimately have little influence on Higgins’ future in Cincinnati.
The Bengals might consider Higgins too expensive to keep, potentially letting him leave without much resistance. While quarterback Joe Burrow has expressed his desire for Higgins to return, financial decisions ultimately rest with the team. Given the Bengals’ historically cautious approach to spending, it seems unlikely they’ll commit to both Higgins and Chase, particularly with Burrow already locked into a massive contract. Chase, being the superior player, is expected to be their priority.
On the other hand, the Patriots are eager to address their missteps from last year, when they failed to land Calvin Ridley in free agency and lacked a backup plan. New England’s receiving group is currently thin, making it almost certain they’ll pursue a major addition this spring. The bigger question is whether Higgins would be interested in joining a rebuilding Patriots team.
