The road to the Super Bowl in the AFC once again goes through Kansas City and Arrowhead Stadium.
After dominating the Pittsburgh Steelers 29-10, the Kansas City Chiefs secured a 15-1 record and clinched the AFC’s No. 1 seed for the playoffs. The 19-point win marked their largest margin of victory this season, surpassing a 14-point triumph over the Browns two weeks earlier.
Patrick Mahomes delivered an outstanding performance, throwing for 320 yards and three touchdowns. He found star tight end Travis Kelce eight times for 84 yards and a touchdown. Kelce’s touchdown allowed him to surpass Hall of Fame tight end Tony Gonzalez for the most receiving touchdowns in Kansas City history.
The standout story of the game was Kansas City’s defense. Despite missing star defensive tackle Chris Jones, the Chiefs held Pittsburgh to just 10 points and forced two turnovers. While Kansas City gave up 202 rushing yards, they kept the Steelers out of the end zone for most of the game and expect their run defense to improve with Jones’ return in Week 18 or the playoffs.
A pivotal moment came early when Pittsburgh committed its first turnover. Following a Jaylen Warren rushing touchdown nullified by a holding penalty, Justin Reid intercepted Russell Wilson’s next pass. Wilson struggled throughout the game, finishing with 205 passing yards and an interception.
With the victory and the No. 1 seed secured, Kansas City has the option to rest its starters in Week 18 against the Broncos. If they choose to do so, the Chiefs will have more than three weeks to prepare for their first playoff game on January 18 or 19.
