Detroit Lions tight end Sam LaPorta delivered another standout performance during the 2024 NFL regular season.
In his second year since being drafted 34th overall out of Iowa, LaPorta recorded 60 receptions for 726 yards and seven touchdowns.
These 60 catches add to the impressive total he accumulated during his Pro Bowl rookie season in 2023. With 144 career receptions, LaPorta now holds the record for the most catches by a tight end through two seasons. The Lions celebrated his historic achievement with a social media post on Friday.
“Sam’s been getting after it!” the team wrote on X.
However, LaPorta’s record may not last long. Raiders first-round pick Brock Bowers, who earned First Team All-Pro honors, set a new rookie reception record with 112 catches during his debut season in 2024, making him a strong candidate to surpass LaPorta’s mark in 2025.
Thanks to LaPorta’s contributions, the Lions finished the 2024 regular season with a 15-2 record and secured the NFC’s No. 1 seed. Detroit will face the winner of Monday’s wild card game between the No. 5 Minnesota Vikings and No. 4 Los Angeles Rams in the divisional round at Ford Field.
