Weeks after calls to make the NASCAR playoffs more thrilling, discussions are underway about a significant change to the Championship Four race. Currently held at Phoenix Raceway or Homestead-Miami Speedway, the Cup Series finale may rotate between different venues in the future.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!NASCAR Chief Operating Officer Steve O’Donnell revealed that the organization is exploring the possibility of moving the Championship Four event to various circuits, a change long desired by both fans and drivers. Speaking to Sport Journal Magazine, O’Donnell acknowledged the success Phoenix Raceway has enjoyed hosting the finale since 2020 but said the idea of rotating venues is on the table.
“So it’s going to be hard to replicate if we were to move. I would not limit something just to Miami if we were to rotate it,” O’Donnell said. “I think you’d have a broader look at venues that could host a championship, but short term we’re in Phoenix, we’re extremely happy there, and we want to ensure that any change continues to grow the sport during the playoffs.”
Phoenix Raceway, which underwent a $178 million renovation in 2018, has delivered seven consecutive sold-out Cup Series races and boasts ideal November weather for the event. The 2025 Cup Series schedule confirms the finale will remain at Phoenix, meaning any changes wouldn’t take effect until 2026 at the earliest.
Drivers have also expressed support for rotating the Championship Four race. Brad Keselowski of RFK Racing suggested venues like Darlington Raceway or Charlotte Motor Speedway as potential options for the season finale.
