It was a tough year for Cleveland Browns running back Nick Chubb, who made a comeback from a severe knee injury only to suffer a broken foot in the second half of the season.
Chubb is set to become a free agent this offseason, and it’s uncertain if the Browns will re-sign him, particularly given his lack of productivity during the 2024 campaign.
During a recent appearance on The Bullpen with Adam the Bull, Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com shared a significant update on Chubb’s situation, and it’s not likely to sit well with Browns fans.
“He’s not approaching this with any assumptions that he’s definitely returning,” Cabot said. “I think it will come down to what he wants to do. If he doesn’t find the right opportunity elsewhere, he might be open to coming back on a minimal contract with some incentives worked in.”
Essentially, if Chubb isn’t willing to accept a team-friendly deal, he could be playing for a different team next season.
While this news may disappoint Browns fans, it’s a logical stance for Cleveland’s front office.
Chubb is undoubtedly beloved in Cleveland and holds a special place in the city’s heart, but the NFL is a results-oriented league. If Chubb isn’t delivering on the field, keeping him becomes harder to justify—especially considering the Browns’ difficult financial situation and limited cap space heading into the offseason.
