A super fan of Dungeons & Dragons’ Githyanki made a Baldur’s Gate 3-infused Doom map where you can just hang out and talk to them
A Brazilian indie developer, known as vikintor, has crafted a one-of-a-kind Doom map inspired by Baldur’s Gate 3, designed specifically for fans of the Githyanki characters from the game. This innovative map, dubbed “Githmap,” combines elements from both the iconic RPG and the classic shooter, offering a unique, combat-free experience set in a richly detailed environment.
Drawing on assets from Baldur’s Gate 3, the Githmap serves as an imaginative extension of the game’s universe, presenting a peaceful, exploratory space where players can interact with Githyanki characters in a way that mirrors an epilogue to one of the game’s endings. The map features a variety of settings, including grand cathedral interiors, cozy wooden quarters, and surreal industrial structures, all under an alien sky reminiscent of Planescape’s otherworldly aesthetics.
Unlike traditional Doom maps, Githmap is entirely combat-free and is viewed from a third-person perspective, creating a hub-like atmosphere that feels akin to a prologue for a potential Githyanki-themed RPG. The map’s expansive layout allows players to explore its intricate design, with hidden areas and dream-like sequences adding to the exploration experience. One notable feature includes a secret area that transforms dynamically, offering a maze-like challenge that shifts as players navigate through it.
For Baldur’s Gate 3 enthusiasts, the Githmap is a nostalgic nod to the game’s earlier days. Vikintor incorporated submissions from fellow Githyanki fans, turning their character models into 2D sprites that evoke the original look of the Baldur’s Gate series. This creative homage captures the essence of the game’s fantasy world and brings it into the realm of Doom modding.
The Githmap is available for free on itch.io and does not require a copy of Doom to run, making it accessible for fans interested in experiencing this unique crossover. Vikintor’s other projects can also be followed on itch.io or X (formerly Twitter) for those curious about more of their creative work.
This imaginative fusion of Dungeons & Dragons lore and classic gaming proves to be a delightful and unconventional addition to both the Doom and Baldur’s Gate communities.
