Despite speculation that Durant would be available on the trade market, Ishbia made it clear in a statement posted on his personal X account that he intended to hang onto the 14-time All-Star, 11-time All-NBA honoree, and two-time Finals MVP. The Houston Rockets were reportedly acquiring draft picks from the Brooklyn Nets on Tuesday night in an attempt to get Durant to leave Phoenix, where he has had two disappointing postseason campaigns.
“NBA Draft night is the best,” opened Ishbia. “Everyone talking about the drama and storylines, some are right and some are just wrong.”
“My turn,” he went on to say. “We are vying for a championship this year because we have the team to win it, and Phoenix loves Kevin Durant, and Kevin Durant loves Phoenix. I adore draft night! “Go Suns.
The 6-foot-11 Texas product, who was selected with the second overall pick in the 2007 NBA Draft, has developed into one of the league’s all-time greats. As seen by recent first-round playoff sweeps with the Suns and Brooklyn Nets, Durant, who is 35 years old and five years after suffering a terrifying Achilles tear, is no longer quite the two-way threat he was in his prime with the Oklahoma City Thunder and Golden State Warriors.
