LSU football’s 2025 recruiting class suffered another setback Thursday night as four-star defensive end La Jesse Harrold announced his decommitment. Harrold’s departure marks the third blue-chip recruit to part ways with the Tigers in just two weeks, following losses of linebacker Devin Harper and quarterback Bryce Underwood last week.
The Florida native, who had committed to LSU in June, is now reportedly leaning toward Florida State. This development continues a challenging stretch for LSU, as they struggle to maintain momentum in what once seemed destined to be a top-tier recruiting haul.
Cracks in the Foundation
Just a month ago, LSU looked poised to contend for the top spot in the 2025 recruiting rankings. Now, the Tigers face the challenge of stabilizing a class that still holds national relevance but has been hit by departures. Currently ranked sixth nationally by On3, LSU’s class still features five-star cornerback DJ Pickett, but questions linger about who will stay loyal.
Adding to the concerns, four-star wide receiver Derek Meadows is reportedly considering flipping his commitment to Alabama. Meadows, who pledged to LSU in July, would be another significant loss if he opts to leave.
What’s Next for LSU?
While the Tigers remain within the top 10 rankings, the losses highlight a troubling trend for LSU’s recruiting strategy. Head coach Brian Kelly and his staff will need to secure their remaining commitments and potentially add new recruits to counterbalance these departures.
If LSU can retain cornerstone players like Pickett and bring in a few more quality recruits, the class could still be considered a success. However, with other programs like Florida State and Alabama circling, the pressure is on to protect what’s left of their 2025 foundation.
