The New England Patriots are preparing to make significant moves this offseason, with improving their pass rush being a key priority.
A new opportunity may have emerged with the recent news that Myles Garrett has requested a trade from the Cleveland Browns, sparking speculation that the Patriots could be a strong contender to acquire him.
Now, New England has officially been linked as a possible trade destination for the star defensive end. Tyler Sullivan of CBS Sports has identified the Patriots as a logical suitor for Garrett.
“The Patriots have by far the most cap space in the NFL ($120 million), which would allow them to accommodate a potential Garrett extension while maintaining financial flexibility to continue adding talent,” Sullivan wrote.
“Depending on Garrett’s view of second-year quarterback Drake Maye and New England’s ability to strengthen its roster, the Patriots could be in position for a quick turnaround under their new coach-quarterback duo, giving him a chance to compete in meaningful games late in the season.”
Acquiring Garrett would immediately make the Patriots a more competitive team, significantly bolstering their defense. During the 2024 NFL season with the Browns, Garrett delivered another standout performance, recording 47 tackles, 14 sacks, three forced fumbles, a fumble recovery, and a pass deflection over 17 games.
At 29 years old, Garrett still has several prime years left and would be an ideal fit in the defensive system led by Mike Vrabel and Terrell Williams.
Of course, if Garrett becomes available, many teams will be interested in trading for him. However, few have the financial resources and trade assets necessary to make a deal happen.
As the NFL offseason approaches, New England remains a team to watch in the potential pursuit of Myles Garrett.
