The Pittsburgh Steelers (10-6) have secured a playoff berth and are poised to achieve their best regular season record since the 2020-21 NFL season. Their immediate focus is on defeating the Cincinnati Bengals (8-8) to solidify the No. 5 seed in the AFC. However, public attention has recently shifted following a Thursday interaction between George Pickens and a reporter.
During the Steelers’ 29-10 Christmas Day loss to the Kansas City Chiefs, quarterback Russell Wilson threw an interception intended for tight end Pat Freiermuth. On the play, Pickens appeared not to run a route, causing confusion. Wilson later stated he expected Pickens to run vertically but took responsibility for the end-zone interception, as reported by Noah Strackbein of Pittsburgh Steelers on SI.
Despite Wilson acknowledging his mistake, it was clear there was a disconnect between him and Pickens on that play. When a reporter pressed the wide receiver about the miscommunication, the question was met with silence and visible irritation.
Alan Saunders of Steelers Now asked Pickens, “It seemed like you and Russ weren’t on the same page in that interception against the Chiefs. How does that happen, and what do you guys do to address it?” Pickens responded curtly, questioning Saunders’ phrasing and ultimately ending the media session without providing a clear answer.
